In order to woo consumers with more, car manufacturers such as Maruti, Toyota, Ford and Renault Nissan are launching dozen of automobiles in 2012. They are investing in capacity expansions to cater to the next two to three years of Growth. They are engineering car models to suit local taste and conditions. Every new car generates excitement leading to increment in sales. Here is a glance for exciting car launches lined up for 2012. Which one will you choose?

Maruti Ertiga MPV

Maruti Suzuki is entering into the utility vehicle space by launching Ertiga Car which is a compact multipurpose vehicle (MPV). Based on RIII concept, it will also be the first compact MPV on Indian roads. Maruti Suzuki showcased Ertiga Car at the Auto Expo of 2010. The car is likely to be available in both petrol and diesel option. Ertiga is likely to be priced somewhere between Rs. 6 and 9 lakh.

Mahindra Rexton SUV:

Rexton will be one of the first projects by Mahindra and Mahindra along with its Korean partner Ssangyong for the Indian market. The seven seater premium SUV will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi and likely to be launched in the second half of 2012. Rexton will be positioned Mahindra and Mahindra much in demand XUV500 and will take on Chevrolet Captiva and Toyota Fortuner. The Rexton is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 17 to 22 lakh.

SAIL TWINS (Hatch & Sedan):

With its Chevrolet Aveo twins meeting with limited success in the hatchback and sedan segments, General Motor India is set to unveil a new game plan, It has lined up the SAIL twins hatchback and sedan from the stable of its Chinese partner SAIC to tap the fast growing segments. The Aveo was not so successful because of the absence of diesel engine. The SAIL twins will be available in petrol and diesel engine options right from the time of launch. CNG and LPG variants will also be available. The SAIL twins are expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 4 to 8 lakh.

2012 Hyundai Sonata:

Hyundai hopeís that new Sonata will be able to make a mark in India as well like it gained ample recognition across the globe. The company has developed a new design direction called Fluidic Sculpture for this car. According to Hyundai this design is inspired by nature and gives the cars dynamic angle. This new Sonata car design will be the core of Hyundaiís future identity. The new sonata car is likely to be priced more competitively than its European rivals somewhere between Rs. 18 to 22 lakh.

Mahindra Mini Xylo:

The Mini Xylo is an attempt by the country's largest SUV maker Mahindra and Mahindra, to enter in to the growing B+ Hatchback segment. In a bid to qualify for the lower excise duty segment, the Mini Xylo will be offered in a size of less than 4 meters and is expected to come powered by a 1.5L diesel engine and it may get a 1.2L petrol engine eventually. The Mini Xylo hatchback is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs 4 to 6 lakh.

BMW Mini Car:

After years of speculation, the iconic Mini brand from BMW will be finally showcased at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. It is likely to be amongst the show stoppers. To be launched as a completely distinct brand, Mini will has its own set of showrooms and distribution network. The company plans to bring in three models: the iconic three door Cooper Hatch, the Cooper Convertible and the Countryman SUV. The BMW Mini is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 25 to 30 lakh. By January-March 2012, two Mini Showrooms will open in Delhi, with a third in Mumbai. By end of next year, Pune, Chandigarh, Chennai and Bangalore will also have Mini Dealerships.

Renault Duster SUV:

In order to make its presence in Indian market, Renault India is putting a lot of concentrated efforts. The result is compact five seater Duster SUV from Renault. With its success acclaimed across the globe Renault Duster is the one of the Cheapest SUVs in the world. The Renault Duster SUV is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 7 to 9 lakh and will compete with Mahindra SUVs, the Toyota Innova as well as Fordís upcoming mini SUV, EcoSport.

Ford EcoSport SUV:

After a moderate response to the New Ford Fiesta, Ford needs to have something special up its sleeve. That special may just come in the guise of the Eco Sport mini SUV. Built on the Fiesta Platform, the Eco Sport will be a sub 4 meter compact SUV. Its size will help it avail of excise duty benefits powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. The Ford ECO Sport Mini SUV is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 6 to 8 lakh. The Eco Sport may just appeal to get attention from buyers of premium hatchback and entry level sedans.

Audi Q3 SUV

Audi unveiled its much anticipated compact SUV the Q3 at 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi. The Bollywood Star Katrina Kaif was present at the event of launching of the Q3. The Audi Q3 is a German Technology SUV which represents the class, elegance and luxury. The Audi Q3 is expected to be priced between Rs. 20-25 lacs.


Korando C will be the first midsized SUV from Mahindra Ssangyong stable to hit the country in the first half of 2012. It is the first SUV from Ssangyong stable that is built on a lighter monocoque platform. The SUV will be positioned between the XUV500 and the Rexton SUV in India. The five seater Korando C 4x4 SUV is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 15 to 17 lakh.

NV 200 MPV:

A joint venture between Nissan and Ashok Leyland is working to launch NV 200 multipurpose vehicle. The NV 200 is Nissanís entry into the multi utility vehicle space in India along with partner Ashok Leyland. The NV 200 will be available in two versions: the premium version and cost effective version. Both these vehicles are likely to be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo in Delhi. The NV 200 is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 7 to 12 lakh.

Peugeot 508 Car:

French car maker Peugeot has recently revealed its Peugeot 508 luxury sedan at 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. With the launch of this luxury car it is clear that Peugeot has decided to capture top luxury car segment. Company will bring Peugeot 508 as CBU (Completely Built Unit) before assembly begins at Rs. 4000 crore plant in Sanand Gujarat. The Peugeot 508 price in India should ideally start from the Rs 20 lacs.

Reva NXR:

Reva NXR will be the Mahindraís first full fledged electric and compact car after its acquisition of Reva in 2010. The two doors, four seater stylish hatchback car is likely to be powered by a lithium ion battery. This battery can run over 150-200kms on a single charge. With the aid of subsidy offered by the Government for electric cars, Mahindra will be in a position to price the car between Rs. 3.5 and 5 lakh.

Renault Pulse Car:

The pulse is French car maker Renaultís entry into the hyperactive B+ hatchback segment. will share a majority of its parts with partner Nissan's Micra hatch. Renault and Nissan share a factory in Chennai out of which the Micra is produced. The size and space of the Pulse would still be Micra-ish, the car is expected to come loaded with features suited for Urban Car buyers. The Pulse is likely to be launched in the price range of Rs 4.5 to 6.5 lakh.

Tata Safari Merlin :

Launched in late 90s, the Safari was Tata Motors Flagship Model. Since then it gone through facelifts and many engine changes. Based on the platform of the Aria, the New Safari Merlin has been built with the help of engineer from Jaguar Land Rover, the company formed after TATA motors acquired two ionic brands from Ford in 2008. The Tata Merlin will be powered by the same 2.2-litre DICOR engine, however it gets all the improvements that we have seen in the Aria. The Tata Safari Merlin is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs. 7 to 11 lakh.
